DESCRIPTION:Attention Optimist Members!\nJoin us for our upcoming monthly meeting where you will have a chance to socialize with other members\, have a meal\, and listen to an informative guest speaker.  Members can attend in person or via ZOOM.\nDate:  Wednesday\, May 8th\, 2024 \nLocation:  Limericks Traditional Pub\, 7304 Macleod Trail\, Calgary\, Alberta.  Parking is available at the back of the restaurant. \n5:00 PM – 7 PM – Dinner and drinks available anytime after 5 PM.  To view the Limericks menu – CLICK HERE \nFood and Drink Specials: \n\nWednesday food and drink specials include a $9.99 pizza and $6.99 beer (20 oz)\n\n7 PM – 8:30 PM – Member Meeting (agenda to be provided in advance) \n\nJoin Zoom Meeting at 7 PM:   https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84123541525\n\n8:30 PM to ??? – Socializing after meeting \nMeeting Guest Speaker:  Nancy McPhee\, Executive Director\, Stephen’s Backpacks Society \n\nAccording to a recent news report\, on any given night there are over 300 youth experiencing homelessness in Calgary.  Nancy will provide an update on the amazing work being done by Stephen’s Backpack Society and thank our club for a recent $1\,000 donation.\n\nDiscussion Topic: \n\nIn an ideal world\, everyone would have a roof over their head\, clothes\, shoes\, food\, and a bed but that is not the case\, even in Calgary. Stephen McPhee looked\, saw\, and didn’t look away. With the simple words “Mommy I need to help them!”  Stephen became a voice for homeless children and started a story that has changed hearts.  When Stephen spoke of a dream to help children in need\, we recognized that this was not just a dream\, but a vision of how things could be. We now consider ourselves charged with the task of casting that vision before us and our communities so that we can bring hope and support to those in need in our community.  While the circumstances are difficult and often sad\, this is really a story about\, belief\, optimism\, taking action\, and delivering hope.  Our inspiration?  The simple fact is that if a six-year-old can envision a way to have an impact on his community\, so can anyone else.  For more information about what they do\, CLICK HERE.\n\n  \n  \n \n\n  \n\n
