SUMMARY:2024 Optimist Club of Calgary Oratorical Scholarship Contest - APPLICATIONS BEING ACCEPTED
DESCRIPTION:Attention all Students –  Here’s your chance to win a Scholarship!\nThe Optimist Club of Calgary is again sponsoring an Oratorical Scholarship Contest for the 2023-24 school year.  The contest is open to students under 19 years of age on October 1\, 2023. Speakers will research\, write\, and present a four-to-five-minute speech on “How to Change the World With Optimism.”  We encourage students who have public speaking experience through school\, church\, Guides and Scouts\, 4-H\, Air Cadets\, and other organizations and training programs to enter. \nEntries will be accepted on a first-come basis starting on December 28th\, 2023 until February 27\, 2024.   To apply\, download the Oratorical Contest Application below\, complete it\, and submit it via e-mail to Bob Steele (Essay and Oratorical Contest Chair) at ironmanb@telusplanet.net with the Subject “Oratorical Contest”. DESCRIPTION:Attention Parents! \nAre your kids (ages 6 to 12) learning how to play golf and interested in participating in a fun tournament?                   \nJoin us for the  2023 Optimist Introduction to Tournament Golf 9-hole Event at Collicut Siding Golf Course near Crossfield\, Alberta (just north of Airdrie) on  August 16th\, 2023.  This is a great opportunity for kids to play in the first golf tournament of their lives. \nContestants can have a family member as their caddie and/or coach.  They will walk the course using pull golf carts and play from the forward tees using winter rules. \nBoy and Girl Age Divisions \nEach Division will be established with approximately the same number of contestants based on age and sex. That tournament is known as THE OPTIMIST and is one of the largest and best-known junior golf tournaments in the world. SUMMARY:2023 Optimist International Convention
DESCRIPTION:Attention all Optimist Members!\nRegistration for the 2023 Optimist International Convention from July 1st to 5th at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City (Arlington\, Virginia) is now open. \nACCOMMODATION: \nThe nightly room rate at the Hyatt Regency is $129.00 (USD) plus taxes. This rate is available for check-in as early as June 29th with check-out as late as July 6th.  The hotel is one of the closest hotels to Ronald Reagan Washington International Airport (DCA) and has a shuttle service to and from the airport (5 minutes away). \nREGISTRATION:   \nFull conference EARLY BIRD registration for members is $384.37 (CDN) if paid for by May 1st\, 2023.   Note\, this does not include add-ons like the formal banquet. \nKEYNOTE SPEAKER: \nThe keynote speaker for this convention is Amy Downs (Oklahoma City Bombing Survivor and Motivational Speaker).  She began her career as a teller 32 years ago working for the Credit Union located in the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. In 1995\, she was one of the last survivors to be pulled from the rubble following the Oklahoma City bombing which killed 168 people including 18 of her 33 co-workers at the credit union. Embracing her second chance at life\, Amy launched a campaign of self-improvement and empowerment. She went from a 355 lb couch potato to completing a full Ironman Triathlon.
