Attention Optimists! Here’s a Great Volunteer Opportunity for you.
Stephen’s Backpacks Society is looking for 10 – 15 volunteers to help on Saturday, April 12th, 2025, from 9 AM to approximately 3 PM.
Stephen’s Backpacks is partnering with Discovery House to provide accommodation for a Mom with 4 kids (ages 8, 5, 4, 2). Stephen’s Backpacks will purchase everything to make the house a home (kitchen items, food, dishes, bedroom, living room furniture/bedding towels, curtains, clothing, haircut certificates for the family, etc.). What they are looking for is a large group of volunteers to tackle each room along with Steven’s Backpack group to set up, assemble furniture, hang curtains, and put dishes, etc. in cupboards. Making it a home. It will be a reveal to the Mom and kids, but we do not meet the family.
We will provide the address of the home where this volunteering opportunity will occur as soon as it has been given to us.
Food and refreshments will be served.

WHAT DOES DISCOVERY HOUSE DO?
Discovery House provides safe housing and essential support for families with children who are leaving domestic violence as they transition out of short-term emergency shelters and are referred to us for longer-term support. For more information, CLICK HERE

Children who are happy and not in distress have been shown to improve their learning capacity and perform better in school. We believe that our intervention with the small tokens of kindness and love that fill every backpack we deliver creates a lasting impact on a child who has limited support from their families.
